Weird Coincidence

Let's go back to 3rd Grade.  I was 8 years old. It was the 1996-1997 school year.  I was attending Beadle Elementary, in Mrs. Marrow's class. I was obsessed with Mariah Carey, and my best friends were Caitlin Crandall and Brennan Ewald.  My favorite things about 3rd grade were: 1) the Japanese/Valentines Day Party, 2) doing analogy's with Mrs. Wray, and 3) when Mrs. Marrow read aloud The Bread Winner by Arvella Whitmore.

So, while thinking about what books I would like to read aloud to my class, The Bread Winner came to mind.  I could not remember anything about it, but that it was about a girl that baked bread in the depression.

This December I decided to purchase the book from Amazon.com.  (I love Amazon).

The week I purchased the book, I headed to Sioux Falls, to see Baby Grady, and guess who I run into in the Scheel's bathroom?  MRS. MARROW!  She couldn't remember my name, but she did  have the right class.  I have not spoken to her since 3rd Grade. It was fun to tell her that I was a teacher, and that I was going to read the book she read to me, in my classroom.

It's weird how things happen sometimes?

I am reading, The Bread Winner, right now, and my kids are loving it.  They beg me to read longer.  It is a very sweet story, and they just can't comprehend why they cannot come up with $3.00 to pay the rent.  Today one of my students said, "I would give them 3 nickles, 4 dimes and 2 pennies."  Another students followed that comment with, "I would just give them 10 dollars, that would cover everything!" It made me smile, I hope it makes you smile too.

Well, just for fun I thought I would throw in a little elementary/early middle school photo.  Its hard to come by digital copies of such old photos. ;)
Patricia and I at her Tea Party Birthday!
My goodness we have been friends for a long time!
Love you Friend.
